What is a beta reader?

A beta reader is a reader of your book who will give feedback on your work at its current stage. It is not editing.  A beta reader will give feedback about anything they notice as they read (not study) your manuscript.

Here is what I do.

I will read your manuscript (formatted in Microsoft Word Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing with 12pt font size) as if it were a finished book and I'll watch for passive voice, confusing passages, pacing issues, grammar and spelling that I notice. A lot of what I do will cross over into editing but it isn't pure editing. That said, I will be as thorough as I can.

I will give you a detailed report that you can use as a guide to improve your manuscript. I will be honest but I will not be unkind. I will be a partner in your eventual goal for your book.

I don't use the word criticism. I use the word feedback. I will not sugar coat the truth but I will not judge you in your mistakes. Your mistakes are your best teachers. I'll help you learn how to appreciate them.

You will decide if my suggestions have value and disregard any that you think are not valuable to you. All changes/suggestions will be tracked and comments added using track changes in Word.

Fees: I beta read a 50,000-75,000 word manuscript for $150.00 USD.  For smaller or larger manuscripts we can negotiate a price.  I accept Paypal.
